When we are confronted with a problem, or difficulty, we are faced with a simple choice. Do we want to figure out who’s to blame for the pickle we’ve found ourselves in, or do we want to seek a solution to the problem?
When you are faced with a problem, do you spend time discussing who's to blame? |
Most people default to ineffective problem-solving strategies, which usually result in accepting a victim mentality, where one spends so much time discussing who’s to blame, and how bad things are or are going to be because of the problems that we now have to deal with. In the end, much energy was spent spinning tires and getting no further than where one had started in the first place.
Anytime we are confronted with a problem, try to focus on solutions, not assigning blame. Try to set goals, and focus on meeting those goals, as a means of overcoming the difficulty or problem. This approach will move us into an “accountability” mode, where we put ourselves in the driver’s seat, and where we can control our own destiny. With responsibility comes “controllability.”
