As autumn turns to winter, do we put up signs in our yards, stating that the snow is not welcome on our driveways or sidewalks? Do we call our lawmakers to urge them to pass a law to stop the coming of winter? Do we post messages on our Facebook walls, urging others to resist winter?
Obviously, we can’t stop the changing of the seasons. The best we can do is come to terms with the fact that changes will come, and prepare accordingly for what Mother Nature sends our way.
Unfortunately, we are not always in control of the changes we experience in our lives, no matter how hard we try. At the point when we accept inevitable change, we have a choice. Are we going to choose to play the role of a victim, and profess to others how terrible things are that we have to live under the changed circumstances, or are we going to choose to empower ourselves by being open to seeking solutions to the newly-created challenges we face?
Sometimes great things come from unexpected changes in our lives. Sometimes new doors of opportunity open to us, simply because we are forced to open some doors that we never would have unlocked, had things remained the way they always have.
We can’t always stop the change, but we can always keep up with change by changing ourselves.
