It feels good to be right
Years ago, I was involved in putting together a theatrical performance of the musical "Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" for a community theatre organization. I was in college at the time, and I was enrolled in a theatre course, taught by a theater arts professor at the school I was attending. One day, we got on the topic, and I informed him of the fact that I was involved in putting this show together. He looked at me, smiled, and said, "Good luck."
Obviously, he saw me as a college student with no formal theatrical training. He clearly thought I didn't stand a chance. What he didn't see is a 20-year-old young man who had already, with the help of two other young men my age, founded a community theatre organization and put together a successful production the previous year. The three of us all not only thought we could start a community theatre organization, we knew we could do it. We were right! We succeeded in accomplishing our goals.
The "good luck" message didn't phase me. I already knew we would succeed, and the production was a huge success. We had a cast which included well over one hundred actors, who performed to multiple sold-out shows, and rave reviews.
We all told ourselves that we could do it, and we were right. "Luck" had nothing to do with it.
Best wishes,
-Victor
