“We must let go of the life we have planned, so as to accept the one that is waiting for us.” ~Joseph Campbell
I stumbled upon this quote when I was vacationing in Door County last week. I had to capture it, because it struck a chord with me.
I remember being in elementary school, being asked the proverbial question, “What are you going to be when you grow up?” I don’t know if they still do this in school, and if they do, I can’t help but think what good that really does. All our life, we are told to plan out our lives, so that, what…We are sure to have security? I don’t know about you, but I couldn’t have ever envisioned things like the internet and computers in people’s hands that function as phones, wireless access points, a GPS, and play games and “apps.”
How could a child, growing up in school in the eighties and nineties possibly “plan” out a static life in a dynamic world?
So true…I felt I “had” to decide what I wanted to be when I got out of school, so I choose music; then I chose science; then education; now…I am very happy and fulfilled doing what I do every day, but I am still open to the possibilities, and I am still waiting to see if anything else comes my way.
I challenge you to choose to search deep within your heart to see if you are answering life’s call. Maybe you are in a job that doesn’t give you fulfillment, and are thinking that it’s time for a change. Maybe you realize that the way you interact with other people or approach life's difficulties and adversity needs to change, because you know you can do better. Maybe you realize that your true passion is something that you want to enrich other people's lives with. Perhaps it’s time to answer that calling.
Search deep within you, and if it’s calling you, accept the life that is waiting for you!
Have a great day!
