When we do or say something, we are often surprised to learn that others may have misunderstood our intentions. When misunderstandings arise, we really want others to be especially understanding of our intentions, and not jump to conclusions or formulate a judgment. Basically, we all want to be given the benefit of the doubt.
However, many times, we are quick to pass judgment onto someone else, with little or no regard to the fact that the actions we witnessed or the words we heard may be misinterpretations on our part of the intentions of someone else.
If we expect leniency from others in giving us the opportunity to accurately express our intentions, we also must learn to give others the benefit of the doubt when it comes to guessing their intentions.
The next time you hear the voice inside your head screaming out judgments based on what you see or hear, remind yourself to turn off that voice, and be open to the possibility that what you see or hear may not be what it appears. Give everyone the benefit of the doubt, and let the power of positivity shape and mold our impressions of others.
Instead of conspiring against others, let’s start conspiring for others!
Best wishes,
-Victor
