The month of February is a special one for me. My younger daughter and I both have birthdays during that month. It really helps make the winter go a bit faster when you have something to celebrate. I don’t really care if I celebrate my birthday, but I realized that my older daughter got a lot of enjoyment from picking where we were going to go out to eat on my birthday, and forcing me to ride the saddle at Texas Roadhouse restaurant. To hear her giggles and laughing because her grand plan played out as she had hoped was music to my ears.
I know I am terribly blessed to even have children. I know that things have to go just right in order to bring the miracle of life to this earth, so I count my blessings every day. Every time I get a hug, kiss, or hear “I love you” from one of my girls, it is a strong reminder of how truly lucky I am to have happy, healthy children, and how lucky I am to be a dad.
I know sometimes the curveballs life throws at us presents us with challenges. I know that sometimes going to work and having to deal with the baggage people bring along with them is tiring and frustrating. I know that sometimes having to work with people who don’t know how to solve problems and resort to ineffective behaviors can ruin a person’s day. I know that when things don’t go our way, it’s so easy to complain and let it ruin our day.
Try to remember all the true blessings we do have in each day. If you woke up this morning, it’s a blessing to be alive. If you have a spouse who loves you, it’s a blessing to be loved. If you have children, it’s a blessing to be a parent. If you have a job to go to today, it’s a blessing to be employed. Take time to remember how truly blessed we are each day!
